Biarritz
If you have the luxury of a longer stay in the city, be sure to head to Biarritz. It’s 2.5 hours on a train but it’s 100% worth it if you go early and come back late. For me, Biarritz has the most beautiful beaches in the South-West. The juxtaposition of the old French royal infrastructure and the van loads of backpacking surfers makes it a really special spot. Head to Miremont café to experience one of the coolest tea-houses and drink the best hot chocolate of your life.
Saint Émilion
Looking for a classic medieval wine village ? Saint-Emilion is only an hour away on a train and is a perfect way to explore Bordeaux’ wine country. Bike tours are a great way to experience Saint-Emilion and its vignobles.
Dune du Pyla
Also an hour away on a train, Dune du Pyla is the largest sand dune in Europe. A picnic ontop of the dune is an excellent day out in nature. It’s worth walking an extra 10 minutes from the top of the stairs to have a big portion of it all to yourselves.
